Ellington Tynes is an award-winning Cinematographer based in Los Angeles, California. He has lensed over a dozen documentaries, including, Marc Levin’s “Stockton on My Mind” for HBO, which received an Emmy nomination in 2021 for “Outstanding Current Affairs Documentary” as well as “Robert Mitchum, Le Mauvais Garcon d’Hollywood” for ARTE Europe’s premiere cultural channel. Ellington provided additional cinematography on the 2021 STARZ Documentary series “Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult” by Cecilia Peck and “Freeway: Crack in the System” for Aljazeera America.
In recent years Ellington has DP’d narrative projects including “Public Relations,” a TV drama pilot by Thomas Stewart, “The Visitation,” a proof-of-concept TV drama by Karl Sanders, and two short films. He has also shot commercial and branded projects for a variety of clients including Coach NY, AT&T, and BILLBOARD to name a few.
Growing up his family moved around the country and in 2000 settled in Washington state where in high school he took up film photography. After building a portfolio and winning best B&W Photo in a state-wide competition, he was accepted into a branch of Parsons in Paris, France. While there he was exposed to the world of European cinema and soon realized that his talent, skill and passion lay in the moving image. He completed a Film Studies degree at Le CLCF Paris, France in 2012 receiving a Bac+3 degree.
